How the optimizer works

How does the calculator decide how many truckloads you’ll need?

It’s not just dividing total volume by the truck bed. The optimizer tests 3 ways to position each piece — lying down, standing on its side, standing on its end — and mixes orientations in the same load to leave the least amount of empty space.

3 orientations per piece

Each pipe or coil can go in lying down, standing on its side, or standing on its end. The optimizer tests the combinations — it doesn’t use a fixed orientation — and picks the one that leaves the least free space.

The right truck bed for the volume

Straight Truck (2.4 × 1.9 × 7.0 m), Truck (2.4 × 2.4 × 8.5 m) and Semi-Trailer (2.6 × 2.6 × 13.6 m) have quite different capacities. The calculator tests the vehicle mix that closes the freight with fewer trips.

Why do coils lying down “nest” into each other?

When coils lie down, the row on top doesn’t stack straight over the one below — it sinks into the gap between two neighboring coils, like stacked marbles. Each extra row rises only about 87% of the coil’s diameter, not the full diameter — that nesting saves around 13% of the height used, fitting more rows in the same truck bed.

How the optimizer arrives at the result

    Sums the volume and weight of each product and gauge entered.
  2. 2
    Tests the 3 possible orientations for each piece, with nesting in the lying-down rows, looking for the combination that leaves the least space.
  3. 3
    Applies a 95% occupancy cap — a well-secured load, not the truck bed’s raw volume — and recommends the fewest number of trips.

Optimizes by volume/space: per-axle weight limits and the vehicle’s gross weight rating are not automatically validated by the calculator — confirm load capacity with the carrier before closing the freight.
