Geotextile Drainage Blanket

Filtration that prevents clogging and extends the drainage system's service life

The Scenario

Every underground drainage system faces the same long-term risk: clogging. In fine, silty or clayey soils, soil particles migrate with the water flow and accumulate inside the drain — reducing flow until the system stops working, usually years after the project is finished, when the cost of reopening the trench is already high.

The Bidim® geotextile blanket solves this as a filtration layer: it retains fine soil particles (separation function) while letting water flow freely (permeability function). Techduto manufactures the full line — from the non-woven filtration geotextile to the finished product, the drain pipe already fitted with the geotextile sleeve at the factory.

Challenges & Solutions

How Techduto solves each challenge in Geotextile Drainage Blanket

Drain clogging in fine soil

The geotextile blanket retains fine soil particles (silt, clay) on the outside, keeping them from migrating into the pipe and reducing flow over the years.

Loss of efficiency under load

The RT14 to RT31 lines keep structural integrity even under machine traffic or highway load, without puncturing or tearing during installation.

Confusion between drainage blanket and waterproofing veil

The Bidim RT/GT line is for drainage and filtration — different from the VP line, which is a waterproofing veil (reinforcement for asphalt emulsion, not filtration).

Extra field application step

Techduto supplies the drain pipe already fitted with the geotextile sleeve at the factory — no need to wrap the blanket manually on site.

How We Apply

Techduto 3-step methodology

01

Soil analysis

Assessment of the soil grain size at installation depth — decides whether the area needs reinforced filtration or if Techdreno KC (no sleeve) already solves it.

02

Line specification

Choice of tensile strength (GT7 to RT31) based on the load over the trench — machine traffic, depth, project type.

03

Supply and installation

Blanket in rolls or pipe already fitted with the geotextile sleeve at the factory, ready to install — reduces field steps and execution error.

FAQ

Common questions about Geotextile Drainage Blanket

The geotextile blanket is a textile filtration layer — it retains soil particles and lets water through. The drainage geocomposite combines that same blanket with a PEAD geonet core, which conducts the collected water to the outlet point. Use the blanket when the drain pipe already handles conduction; use the geocomposite when you need a drainage plane without a pipe, such as in retaining walls or landfills.
It depends on the soil. Techdreno KC has micro-slits that control solid transport without needing a blanket — proven by a UFLA doctoral thesis. In very fine soils or when the grain size is uncertain, the blanket remains the safer option.
The technical specification of the Bidim geotextile follows NBR 12568 (weight), NBR 12569 (thickness), NBR 12824 (tensile strength), NBR 13359 (puncture resistance, CBR plunger), plus the international standards ISO 11058 (permeability) and ISO 12956 (filtration opening, O95).
No. The Bidim RT/GT blanket (drainage line) filters and separates soil particles. The waterproofing veil (VP line) is used as reinforcement for asphalt emulsions in waterproofing — a different function, it does not replace the drainage blanket.
100% polyester, continuous filaments, needle-punched non-woven — the same technology across all strength lines (GT7 to RT31).

Why Techduto and not a reseller: since 1986, when it built Brazil's first corrugating machine by hand, Techduto has designed and manufactured its own line of corrugated pipes — it doesn't resell, it produces. Today, with factories in São José dos Campos (SP), Recife (PE) and Primavera do Leste (MT), the engineering behind Techdreno and Drainage Geocomposite is entirely its own. See our full history →
