The Problem

Traditional drainage layers made of gravel and sand require large volumes of material, heavy-duty transportation, and careful compaction. In landfills, highways, and dams, installation is slow and expensive, and it takes up valuable space in the cross-section of the project.

The Drainage Geocomposite PEAD 1L, 2L and 2L Solution

Techduto Geocomposite completely replaces layers of gravel and sand with a three-dimensional HDPE geogrid core that promotes excellent flow of liquids and gases in all directions. Installed in rolls, it is 50% faster than conventional systems. The 2LG-F model adds an integrated waterproof membrane for dual functionality: drainage + water barrier.

1LG 1 geotextile layer · 2LG 2 layers · 2LG-F 2 layers + waterproof film. PEAD geonet, 2 m width, available in 30 and 50 m rolls.

Techduto naming maps to market terms: 1LG = 1L drainage geocomposite (1 geotextile layer) · 2LG = 2L drainage geocomposite (2 layers) · 2LG-F = 2L-FP drainage geocomposite / lost formwork (2 layers + impermeable film).

Which Geocomposite line to use for each application

Choosing between 1L, 2L and 2L-F depends on the load on the system and whether an impermeable barrier is needed between the geocomposite and the other side of the structure — an application criterion aligned with DNIT 161/2022 (geosynthetics in road works).

  • Low load, no barrier needed (garden, green roof, residential basement) → 1L line, lighter, one geotextile layer.
  • High traffic or structural load (highway, tunnel, platform) → 2L line, two geotextile layers.
  • Impermeable barrier needed (retaining wall, landfill) → 2L-F line, lost formwork, with an impermeable film between the layers.
1L Garden, green roof, residential basement
2L Highway, tunnel, platform
2L-F Retaining wall, landfill

Retaining wall2L-F

The geocomposite replaces the granular drainage layer behind the wall, relieving hydrostatic pressure on the structure. The 2L-F line isolates the dry side of the wall with the impermeable film, preventing drained water from pushing back against the wall.

Green roof1L

A lightweight drainage layer under the planting substrate, preventing ponding and structural overload on the slab. The 1L line handles the typical low load of green roofs without adding unnecessary weight to the project.

Landfill2L-F

The geocomposite captures and conveys leachate and gases generated by waste decomposition, protecting the base liner. The 2L-F line reinforces the containment barrier required in this type of project.

Why Techduto and not a reseller: since 1986, when it built Brazil's first corrugating machine by hand, Techduto has designed and manufactured its own line of corrugated pipes — it doesn't resell, it produces. Today, with factories in São José dos Campos (SP), Recife (PE) and Primavera do Leste (MT), the engineering behind Techdreno and Drainage Geocomposite is entirely its own. See our full history →

FAQ

Common questions about Drainage Geocomposite PEAD 1L, 2L and 2L-F — Techduto

Yes. The three-dimensional core made of HDPE geogrid provides the same flow of liquids and gases as a layer of crushed stone, with the following advantages: faster installation, less material required, and no need for heavy-duty transport or compaction.
1LG (one layer of geotextile + geogrid) for filtration with drainage. 2LG (geotextile on both sides) for drainage with double filtration. 2LG-F (HDPE film + geogrid + geotextile) when an impermeable water barrier is required in addition to drainage.
Yes. Geocomposites are widely used in landfills for liquid and gas drainage, replacing layers of crushed stone with thinner layers that can be installed more quickly. Chemical resistance is essential in this environment.
Over 50 years. The HDPE used in the geogrid and geotextile is resistant to chemical and biological agents as well as harsh soil conditions, maintaining its drainage properties for decades.
The geocomposite is supplied in rolls. Simply unroll it onto the prepared surface and position it according to the design. No compaction is required. Seams are created by overlapping the rolls by at least 30 cm.
Yes. The 3D core made of HDPE geogrid maintains its structure under compression. For applications under pavements with heavy traffic, please consult our technical team to determine the appropriate model.
